This is the locking mechanism. I welded up a specially shaped sliding bar, operated by a cam attached to one of the gate rings. The vertical plate not only provides the surface against which the cam pushes, it also enables the gates to be locked from the outside using a standard 5-lever door lock, which prevents the bar from sliding.
